Cincinnati Nature Center Scarf
Since 1996, monarch butterfly populations have declined by an alarming 97%. These incredible creatures depend on the milkweed plant for their very survival. With shifting land management practices, millions of acres of native milkweed have vanished from our landscape, leaving the monarch’s future as a species in dire jeopardy.By planting milkweed in our yards and gardens we can all help save the monarch from extinction. The female butterflies lay their eggs only on milkweed plants and monarch caterpillars only eat milkweed, a necessity for their growth and development into a butterfly.
Milkweed to Monarchs is a signature initiative of the Center for Conservation & Stewardship at Cincinnati Nature Center, with the intent of educating the community on the fragile plight of the monarch butterfly and promoting the widespread planting of milkweed in Southwest Ohio and beyond.
With 50 years of land and habitat management experience and a mosaic of diverse native habitats on 1,600 acres, Cincinnati Nature Center is establishing the Center for Conservation & Stewardship to act as a community resource by promoting research, developing education programs, and helping people become better stewards of the land in Greater Cincinnati.
With your purchase of a scarf, you are not only raising awareness, but $10 will be donated to the Cincinnati Nature Center.
