On June 27, 1920, Cincinnati Opera began its life with a sold-out performance of Von Flotow’s opera Martha, performed at the Cincinnati Zoo Pavilion. For over 50 years, the Opera performed at the Cincinnati Zoo with a number of now-famous opera singers frequenting the stage: Plácido Domingo, Norman Treigle, Beverly Sills, Sherrill Milnes, Montserrat Caballé, James Morris, and Licia Albanese, to name a few.
In 1972, the company moved to the stage of Cincinnati Music Hall, where it continues to perform a summer season of beloved opera favorites and thrilling new works.
As it enters its 95th year, Cincinnati Opera is the second oldest opera company in the United States and is considered “one of America’s favorite opera companies” (Opera News).
This BowTie has been commissioned in celebration of Cincinnati Opera’s 95th anniversary season in 2015. The design is an Art Deco pattern, an homage to Cincinnati Opera’s origins in the 1920s.
With your purchase of a BowTie, you are not only raising awareness, but $10 will be donated to Cincinnati Opera.
