Hibiscus Children’s Center

A PLACE TO CALL HOME… In 1985, LaVaughn Tilton was involved with a local organization that provided training to volunteers assigned to work with abusive parents. The need was real and, for LaVaughn, a deeper concern was growing… “What about the children? We don’t have any safe homes for the children”.

LaVaughn’s quest to create what would become the Treasure Coast’s only licensed emergency shelter for abused children inspired an entire community of individuals and businesses to embrace her vision of providing a safe haven for abused, abandoned and neglected children and youth. Almost three decades later, Hibiscus Children’s Center has gradually expanded to care for 76 children seeking refuge from abusive homes. Mental health services, addressing the specific traumas and crises experienced, are provided to hundreds of children and families…the first, of many steps, in the healing process. Hibiscus Children’s Center is known across the country for its prevention program and services that have a 98% success rate of keeping families out of the child welfare system.

Since its inception, the vision of Hibiscus Children’s Center has never dimmed. We are intently focused on saving children’s lives. Abused, abandoned and neglected children have found a safe place to call “home” and Hibiscus Children’s Center ensures that each child is nurtured, encouraged, inspired, educated and introduced to a lifetime of opportunities. Over a quarter of a million nights of safety have been provided to abused children and youth since we opened our doors.

Today, we share LaVaughn’s ardent desire to provide a safe and loving home for children. We are grateful to our generous supporters like you. You make it possible for us to welcome into our care, fragile children who are often frightened, dismayed and unsure of what the future holds.

The beautiful BowTie design is a simple reminder of what we do every day for children… thanks to you. Providing a safe, stable and loving environment is the first step towards a future filled with hope. Yes. We welcome them home.

25% of the revenue from the sale of each BowTie benefits Hibiscus Children’s Center.
