Mercantile Library

The Mercantile Library is the literary center of Cincinnati.

Founded in 1835, the Mercantile brings readers, authors, and writers together to exchange ideas and champion the written word. Through the years, writers as diverse as Herman Melville, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Saul Bellow, and Salman Rushdie have spoken at Mercantile events. It is the city’s senior library, and one of the oldest cultural institutions in the Midwest.
