The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) was established in 1964 as a nonprofit educational corporation whose mission is to inspire and educate the general public about the importance of swimming as a key to water safety, drowning prevention, fitness, good health, and an enhanced quality of life.

Since the museum opened in 1968, millions of visitors have turned their vacations into an educated realization as to their personal, individual, and collective need for better swimming in our society. This broad educational function, stressing the importance of swimming and stimulating interest in swimming through its history, is the unique objective of this Hall of Fame.
