One in four public high school students will not graduate.
One in three children in the U.S. are considered overweight or obese.
One in three young people say they lack adult role models in their lives.
The First Tee is uniquely positioned to help solve these crises. First Tee’s focus is to increase the number of students entering middle school prepared to achieve success, thus reducing their risk of dropping out of high school. The First Tee programs specifically address behavior through a formal character education program which teaches interpersonal, social, and self-management skills. The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits were introduced as a framework for educating young people on physical, emotional, and social wellness to promote healthy, active lifestyles. Finally, the First Tee Coaches are a dedicated team of adult mentors who are committed to positively impacting young lives by completing a multilevel educational training program which prepares them to deliver the First Tee Life Skills Experience.
The First Tee’s mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhacing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. The First Tee of Greater Miami Valley began in 2005, serving 45 young people out of Middletown, Ohio. Since that time, the First Tee of Greater Miami Valley has grown to serve families in Butler, Montgomery, and Warren counties and will impact more than 10,000 young people in 2015 through their summer Life Skills Experience programs, National School Programs, the First Tee DRIVE programs and outreach events.
