Description
When Emily Schaller was 18 months old, she was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Upon her diagnosis, Emily’s parents were told that she may not live long enough to graduate from high school. Thankfully, her parents did not accept that prognosis and decided to treat her no differently than her two older brothers and all of the other kids. Today, Emily is a motivational speaker, half marathon runner, cyclist, and a friendly CF face to the word.
In 2007, Schaller founded the Rock CF Foundation to help improve the quality of life for others with cystic fibrosis. With the help of a core group of volunteers, the foundation utilizes the arts, entertainment, fashion, and fitness to support research initiatives and heighten public awareness in the fight against cystic fibrosis.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a hereditary genetic disorder that causes the body to produce thick and sticky mucus in the lungs and digestive system. The mucus leads to recurring lung infections and the inability for patients to digest food properly and gain nutrients. The median age of survival has drastically increased in the past twenty years, and most CF patients are now able to live fulfilling lives. Through the Kicks Back and Rock Your Mark programs, the Rock CF Foundation is focused on empowering CF patents to thrive in everyday life and inspire them to keep rocking down the road.
With your purchase of a BowTie, you are not only raising awareness, but $10 will be donated to the Rock CF Foundation.
